Original reporting by Maya Gluck
Voters are heading to the polls soon to choose Florida’s next senator for District 14 located in Hillsborough County.
You must be registered in order to vote in this election.
The position became vacant after Jay Collins became Lt. Governor of Florida in August of 2025.
On the ballot are Republican Josie Tomkow and Democrat Brian Nathan.
Early voting runs from Mar. 14 through 21 if you are registered for early voting.
Don’t worry, you can also vote on Election Day, which is Mar. 24.
Voting in local elections can impact citizens quality of life.
“This seat right here, this is a state senate seat, and these are people that make legislation that is going to rule what you do and what you see out there,” said Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer.

Wheelchair tennis tournament
Original reporting by Zoe Sax

Tampa’s wheelchair tennis players are ready to serve at their tournament.
Tampa Parks and Recreation launched its wheelchair tennis program a decade ago, with just a few players, but now, they have over a dozen.
“Just being active, just staying active and having something on a weekly basis that they can look forward to and have fun, I think is just the most rewarding and awesome part of this,” said Racquet and Paddle Sports Supervisor Andrew Sheets.
The team has been practicing at Julian B Lane’s Tennis Courts every Monday.
They say they are ready to dominate the court.
The players are hoping more people will start coming to practices and participate in future tournaments.
“It’s just fun to catch up with your friends. And it’s cool because they know what you’ve gone through and similar experiences so, that’s what makes, what helps you bond with each other,” said wheelchair tennis player David Corredor.
Corredor has been playing tennis for the last three years.
