10th Annual Florida Construction Career Day

Construction of new homes and businesses can be found all over the Bay Area, as Florida is one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S.A.

At the 10th Annual Construction Career Day in Tampa Bay, industry leaders set up booths and talked to prospective students who could one day build the future of the construction and architecture industry.

This educational outreach program began in 1999 with the goal of introducing students to a range of jobs in the construction market.

This is a national outreach program, and Florida hosts five events a year in different cities.

The event features industry leaders in the public and private sectors, hands-on learning labs and a chance for students to see the new technology and tools of the trade.

The Florida Department of Transportation is the main sponsor of the events in Florida.

“We come together to inspire the kids. The students are growing and trying to explore what they want to be doing in their grown-up life and we are planting the seed,” said construction engineer Amy Perez.

Students from local high schools were invited to the event to explore the learning labs.

From trying new tools to learning about the niche of each company allows the students to learn more about the future of the industry and how they might fit in.

“To get more hands on experience and seeing what the construction field is going to be like, since I am going to be graduating soon and entering the field hopefully,” said high school student Aisha Onkwokan.

The event is more than just about the learning labs; it’s a recruitment opportunity for local companies.

Give them an opportunity to learn and hopefully join our industry. The industry is in need of talent and looking for people to get involved and help build the future,” said CPWG Construction worker Dan Hart.
