Murals and pathway in downtown Tampa

TAMPA- The Tampa Soulwalk is an arts and heritage trail that tells the history of local black communities from past to present.

At approximately 46 miles long, you can experience art installations, historic landmarks, museums, cemeteries, and more. The trail runs through 25 neighborhoods and features over 100 stops visitors can visit.

“Black history is everything to me, it helps me know more about who I am. Knowing about your history, it helps you to know who you are as well,” said artist Aretha Rodney McDonald.

While February is Black History Month, the trail will be open all year long.

“It’s much more than a month to me,” said Servant leader Jessica Vega Eugene. “It’s 365 days. I don’t just celebrate it in February.”

There are three main areas you can walk through: Central Avenue & the Scrub, Downtown, and East Tampa & Sulphur Springs.

The City of Tampa inaugurates a new dog park in Old Seminole Heights

TAMPA – The Henry and Ola Park for canines opened last week in Tampa’s Old Seminole Heights after years of community rallies.

The 10,000-square-foot park is the 17th of its kind in the city. The $150,000 project includes multiple fun features for dogs and their owners such as fencing, turf areas, and a picnic table.

City Councilwoman Lynn Hurtak says she already feels the dog park’s impact on the Old Seminole Heights community.

“We brought our dog twice on the first day of opening and we met half a dozen people who didn’t know that there was a neighborhood association and that we met regularly,” she said. “We were able to share the information with people that there’s a community that can help them accomplish things they want to get done.
