TAMPA – The University of South Florida Centre Gallery held a student art showcase last week at the Marshall Student Center to bring exposure to artists and to entertain students.
Odds and Ends, a Centre Gallery exhibition, was open from January 21 through January 30 at the heart of USF’s campus. The display included photography, poetry, paintings and sculpture art. The Center for Student Involvement organized the event.
Hannah Norato, an intern and studio art major at USF, gets involved in the art scene on campus as much as she can. She presents her work in the Carolyn M. Wilson Art Gallery and attends receptions. She believes in presenting art in public places to bring exposure to more students.
“We don’t have a lot of these spaces on campus,” said Norato. “So having one here, especially right in the middle, is very important.”
Faith Sharpe, an intern and art history major, says that art is more than just the medium it’s created with. It’s an accumulation of historical categories that make up society and the world.
“It really does speak to the politics of the time, the science of the time, the religion of the time,” Sharpe said. People are able to experience the context within the work, as well as the work itself. “It definitely gives a sense of community.”
