The University of South Florida is offering a free introductory course on artificial intelligence (AI).

GenAI in Action: Impact and Possibilities will teach the basics of AI, including machine learning and how it is used in different industries.

The course is open to everyone – not just USF students.

The only restriction is for people from countries listed under U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), including Cuba, North Korea and Syria, according to the USF website

Christine Brown, associate vice president for USF Innovative Education, said the course is a redesign of USF’s first AI course that launched in 2023.

At the time, over 4500 people took the course.

With all the evolutions related to AI, the course will bring updated information after two years.

“As a university, we are proud to support our community by offering this incredible resource for hands-on experimentation and real-world application of GenAI,” Brown said.

The course has three modules: Demystifying AI and Prompt Engineering, AI and Education and AI and the Future of Work.

It takes three to five hours to complete the course, which will be open until March 24.

New session dates will be announced after then.

Those who complete the course have the option to purchase a digital badge for $39.
