(DUNEDIN) With the official start of the Toronto Blue Jays’ spring training, Dunedin is experiencing an increase in energy, fans, and—most importantly—economic growth. Local businesses are being greatly impacted by the influx of baseball fans from all over the world who are coming to the area to cheer on their favorite team.

Bauser’s, a well-known local restaurant that has grown to be a favorite among both locals and visitors, is one hotspot profiting from the baseball craze. The restaurant has discovered a successful strategy for drawing customers by providing $20 parking that includes a complimentary beer. Janet Bauser, the owner of the business, has seen firsthand how the town changes every year as a result of spring training.
“I think the last figure that I did hear is that spring training brings in at least 8 million dollars to this community every year,” Bauser said.
Bauser also mentioned she learned that information by working closely with the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce as a member of the Dunedin Stadium Advisory Committee.
Fans stay to enjoy the local businesses that prosper during this time, in addition to the baseball. The increased foot traffic benefits restaurants, bars, and stores, so spring training is a crucial component of Dunedin’s yearly economic cycle.
Gordon Stafford, a local resident, has seen the positive impact of the event for years.
“Dunedin is a great place. It brings a lot of people here ‘cause it’s spring training. It’s definitely been a big, big part of people making money here, and locals and snowbirds love it,” said Stafford.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) building, which is conveniently across the street from the Blue Jays’ training field, is another popular destination for baseball fans. With its relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, and food specials, it has developed into a meeting spot for both fans and veterans.

“When I come for a game, I usually come here and we go across the road to the VFW. You can get a cheaper drink and a nice hotdog at a little better price. Sorry, Blue Jays,” one fan shared with a laugh.
The VFW is a great place for people looking for a more affordable way to enjoy the season because it offers veterans discounts on food and beverages both inside their establishment and at the ballpark.
Businesses in Dunedin are benefiting from the influx of fans as spring training gets underway. During this period, the town experiences a surge in economic prosperity, which is evident in the bustling bars, packed restaurants, and increased retail sales.
For now, the community is embracing the annual tradition, knowing that baseball season is more than just a game—it’s a home run for local businesses.
