Hillsborough’s Incredible Duck Race helps raise money

The Incredible Duck Race returned to the Hillsborough River once again on April 19.

For over nine years now, more than 12,000 rubber ducks race in the Hillsborough River for a first-place prize of $5,000.

Amanda Malinowski, the chair of the duck race, said the race helps raise money for the Kiwanis Club of Tampa.

“My favorite part about this is just all the fundraising that we accomplish,” Malinowski said. “All the proceeds from this event help support kids in the local community.”

All 12,000 rubber ducks were adopted for the race, and therefore, the duck race raised roughly $50,000 this year for future children’s programs.

The duck race also had a variety of apparel tents, children’s games, food trucks and activities.

Eli Haynes, a Tampa resident, said he was impressed with this year’s duck race.

“I didn’t expect there would be merch here, so you get to buy like duck hats and duck calls,” Haynes said. “It’s cool to see the fun little merch for the kids and their families and stuff, so that’s great.”
