So long, Kroger Delivery

Original Reporting by Aiden Poff

“I’m just happy that we took advantage of the delivery service while we had the chance. We had a new baby at the time so it made life a lot easier, so… We were sad.”

Kroger Delivery recently announced it’s completely withdrawing from the state. Kroger officials say their Fulfillment Centers just haven’t met their financial goals. It’s a move many didn’t see coming.

Kroger customer Ryann Goulet told us how she felt when they heard the grocer was leaving.

“I’m just happy that we took advantage of the delivery service while we had the chance. We had a new baby at the time so it made life a lot easier, so… We were sad.”

WARN notices (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notifications) reveal over a thousand Kroger layoffs statewide, 234 of which are in Tampa. Employees contacted by Z News declined to comment.

Kroger says you can still receive orders through the end of January.

Feeding Tampa Bay this Holiday Season

Original Reporting by Jada Knobloch

3.2 million families are food insecure this holiday season. Feeding Tampa Bay is a food bank for the surrounding ten counties.

Director of Public Affairs Shannon Oliviero mentions the impact the government shutdown had.

“We normally serve 1.9 million meals a week and we had 200,000 additional meals added to that for almost a two-month period of time.”

Feeding Tampa Bay doesn’t just accept donations during the holiday season… it’s a year-round effort.

Students in the Z News Class, who produce the newsbreak and the stories on this website, organized their own food drive to give back before Thanksgiving.

We collected donations for Feeding Tampa Bay as a way to give back to the community.

“So, it’s all ages who can help, but it’s really the compassion that the people who do that have for their neighbors who may not have as much as they do,” Shannon Oliviero said.

Christmas is right around the corner, so it’s not to late to start a food drive of your own.
