The Carnival World Museum in Gibsonton is a one-of-a-kind spot that features photos from years of traveling shows in America and fun memorabilia from carnivals and circuses of the past. Visitors can see rides, games, colorful wagons and sequined costumes.
The museum was built from private donations, a big contributor being the international independent showman’s association. Lee Stevens, the executive director, stated that over 20 years ago they started a campaign to raise the funds needed to build the building, and they succeeded. Over the years they have grown adding new and fun exhibit for people to come and enjoy.
Now, organizers just added new exhibits. On March 29, they took a big trip to Georgia to get a merry-go-round, a small train and some other kiddie rides that people were donating. Stevens said that he is proud to have many of the exhibits and is excited to add new ones.
The museum is also looking for volunteers. It is trying to digitalize a lot of its photographs and other things and would like some help. It has its own social media where it shares information and history on the exhibits featured in the museum.
