The City of Clearwater is searching for eligible applicants for the homeowner rehabilitation loan program.
This program is designed to help homeowners fix items that do not meet the city’s Minimum Housing Code. These items roof, plumbing, HVAC, electric, and ADA modifications of an immediate nature. To those who qualify, they could be awarded $60,000 in 0% interest loan. Households can make up to $48,000 a year individually, or up to $69,000 as a family of four. Clearwater resident Eileen Lampert said this loan would be a great opportunity to fix up her home.
“I think that is a really really good idea,” Lampert said. “I think there’s a lot of things I would like to get done, but financially it’s not possible.”
According to city officials, preserving the value of homes and providing homeowners with safe and decent living conditions is the primary goal. Clearwater resident Lou Hooyenga said this would be useful for him and his wife.
“My wife would like to redo her bedroom and the en suite to the bedroom,” Hooyenga said. “And we need a new roof I have to admit that we need to do that, and I don’t want to, but a loan would solve that issue.”
