Law enforcement is placing stronger safety measures in crowded places.
Florida is saying no more following last year’s episodes of gun violence in Miami. Governor Ron Desantis said there will be no tolerance for for criminal activity this spring break.
“If you’re coming for these other reasons, if you’re committing crimes, causing havoc, you are going to pay the price,” said Desantis.
Cities like Fort Lauderdale and Miami have set curfews, placed bag checks for beach access, and increased efforts to prevent loud music and public alcohol consumption. The City of Miami released this commercial to announce they’re breaking up with spring break.
Clearwater is taking measures to ensure things are safe in their city too. Clearwater Police Department Public Information Officer, Rob Shaw, said their officers will be fully mobile to keep the beach protected.
“It’s a lot of extra personnel. We’ll have officers on bikes, on foot, in cars, on a boat, you pretty much name it. We’ll have officers patrolling the beach just making sure everyone has a safe Spring Break,“ said Shaw.
