TAMPA – Parents can now add their children ages 13 to 17 to their Uber account to allow them to request rides.

The feature also allows for live trip tracking, which allows parents to track rides from start to finish. Uber has put several safety measures in place regarding the feature. These include matching teens with highly rated drivers, PIN verification, and RideCheck, which cannot be turned off by the teen. Teens can also ride with their friends as long as they are also 13 or more years of age. Some parents and teens are concerned about the safety of the feature despite these additions.

“When you were a kid, they’d tell you not to get into a car with a stranger. I feel the same way about that with an Uber. Like, if you’re a teen who can’t drive and you do that, it can’t end up well,” said Ashlyn Palacios, a local high schooler.
