ST. PETERSBURG – A political science professor at the USF St. Petersburg campus has been reassembling her home after Hurricane Helene disaster in Madeira Beach. Judithanne Scourfield McLauchlan has been rebuilding for about six months now and counting.

LISTEN TO THIS STORY:
After coming back and seeing her house of 20+ years in a devastating state, McLauchlan has been in 11 different motels. However, for about a month now she and her husband have been staying in an apartment. McLauchlan says that there was no better feeling then to unpack her suitcase after living out of it for months on end.
Throughout the journey of getting her home back to where it once was, many neighbors have come out to help and get things that she might need to finish the process of clearing it out. One neighbor even got her things she needed from home depot and then went along to many other houses near by and did the same thing. McLauchlan expresses her thanks to these thoughtful individuals.
After Hurricane Helene, as we all know, Hurricane Milton had stormed the Tampa area. Thankfully, McLauchlan had no further damages and she was relieved. She says that she is glad her “little bungalow” is still structured from the outside and standing strong.
