TAMPA – The University of South Florida is introducing a new English elective course based around Taylor Swift for the 2024 Fall semester.
The course will meet twice a week. Students in the course will compare the music of Taylor Swift to the works of William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, and Lord Byron.
Three classes will be offered and taught by English professors Jessica Cook, Emily Jones, and Michelle Taylor.
“There’s been a lot of buzz about it, and I think it would be really cool diving more into like the lyrics, tone, and different things like that. I think it would be really interesting to see like what it brings to USF and the type of groups it brings to the classes,” said English major Marissa Stiff.
The class is available to students of all majors as long as they have completed English Composition One and Two.
Pasco County to expand Anclote River Park
TARPON SPRINGS – Pasco County is developing the area of Anclote River Park despite community backlash.
The county has had plans to develop the area since 2019, but they have been delayed due to complaints from Tarpon Springs locals. The park is an archeological zone and home to an indigenous burial mound.
“People need a place to come and relax and enjoy nature. People need to recharge and get away from the hustle and bustle and putting in a condo or a restaurant is not gonna benefit people really, I don’t think,” said Tarpon Springs local Deborah Fielder.
The county will still be developing the park but is now considering smaller projects.
