A leadership change is coming to USF.
After nearly four decades of involvement with the school and being the first USF alumna to become president, Rhea Law announced that she will soon step down.
Law said in a university wide email that she initially took the role of interim President of USF in 2021, expecting to only serve a few months.
“I pledged to create a smooth glidepath for a new president to be well positioned for success,” Law said.
However, she became USF President in 2022 and led the university for three years.
Now, Law said it is time for new leadership to take over.
“One of the hallmarks of great leadership is knowing when it is time to create space for new ideas and fresh perspectives to build on the momentum we have created,” Law said. “I am confident in the path ahead and inspired by the potential of what is to come.”
In the announcement, Law highlighted key accomplishments under her leadership. She mentioned record-breaking research funding, a long-awaited on-campus stadium to open in 2027 and a College of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing to open in the fall.
USF Board of Trustees Chair Will Weatherford has been made aware of Law’s decision, and a national search is underway to find Law’s replacement.
Until then, Law will remain in the position.
Law thanked the USF community and the Board of Trustees for their confidence and support throughout her tenure.
“Serving this community as USF’s eighth president has been the honor of my lifetime, and I look forward to cheering on the continued success of this incredible university,” Law said.
