For the second year in a row, the Table Tennis Club at USF has made it to nationals. Tiago Farinas made his second straight appearance in NCTTA Championship play in April. But this isn’t just the story of one player. It’s a story of a team coming together.

Over the past few years, the Table Tennis Club at the University of South Florida has been steadily growing a community. Just recently the university’s Sport Clubs Council named them Indoor Sport Club of the Year.

It’s not only the social aspect of the club that’s seen growth. This past semester, across two NCTTA South Regional competitions, the club has seen medals. Multiple medals.

In November, the club was runner-up in team play for the A division, and dominant in C division going undefeated.

February brought even better results. In Divisional competition, the A team went 5-0 against competing universities to move on to Regionals. The silver medals for both men’s and women’s singles went to USF, won by Tiago Farinas and Natalia Martinez, in both Divisional play and Regionals.

With his silver medal at Regionals, Tiago Farinas was awarded a spot in the NCTTA College Table Tennis Championships.

What’s the next step for club? According to club officer Connor Pierce, “Nationals,” for singles and team play.
