How Tampa Bay is celebrating Veterans Day
Monday is Veteran’s Day, but Tampa won’t have a parade this year.
Organizers stated on their website that the 2024 Veterans Parade will be suspended out of respect for the community and those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. They plan to return in 2025.
However, this does not mean there will be no celebration.
Hillsborough County Consumer and Veteran’s Services and the Veteran’s Council of Hillsborough County will host the 60th Annual Veterans Day Tribute on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Park and Museum. This outdoor activity will have a patriotic ceremony, food, games, music and a variety of resources for Veterans and military families.
Local attractions are offering special prices and promotions for Veteran’s Day. Busch Gardens is offering the Busch Gardens Tampa Bay & Adventure Island 2025 Military Pass available to Veterans and their families after completing the verification process on their website. The Florida Aquarium did not stay behind, from Nov. 8 through 11 – military personnel will receive free entrance to the aquarium. For more details about this offer visit the Florida Aquarium website. The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg will also be offering complimentary admission to military members plus one guest on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a valid ID. Additionally, they will host various Veterans Day activities.
Rick Scott shifts his focus to a new vote
Rick Scott secured another term representing Florida. Now, Scott is hoping to become the next Senate majority leader after Republicans took control of the Senate Tuesday night.
Current senate minority leader Mitch McConnell – who defeated Scott in 2022 – is not seeking re-election.
“Well I think I’m gonna win,” said Scott in a speech. “They want a change. They know that I’m a business guy and they know if you build a business you bring everybody along and everybody is going to succeed.”
The vote is scheduled for Nov. 13.
USF’s Homecoming is back
USF’s Homecoming Weekend is finally here after being pushed back due to the effects of Hurricane Milton.
To wrap up Homecoming Week, the Bulls will be taking on the Naval Academy. The game will be this Saturday, November 9th at 12 p.m. To honor Veterans Day, those who have served will be recognized during the event.
