Original reporting by Zoey Patrick
A new immersive experience in Tampa is bringing one of history’s most famous voyages to life.
Titanic: An Immersive Experience uses detailed rooms and virtual reality to give visitors a new way to experience the story of the Titanic.
Visitors get the chance to see what life was like on the Titanic through virtual reality and by looking at artifacts.
Over 100 years after the Titanix set sail, its story is being told in a way you could actually walk through.
“So when admirers come in, we give everyone boarding passes, and those boarding passes has actual passengers who were on the Titanic and we have a memorial wall. So they’ll try and match the names that is on the boarding pass to see if they survive or perish,” said General Manager Zaraphon Only.
At the end of the exhibit, a memorial wall lists the names of the more than 2,200 passengers and crew on board the RMS Titanic, giving visitors a quiet moment to stop, reflect and remember the lives lost.
Real artifacts and detailed recreations help bring stories into focus. Items like personal belongings and luggage show what daily life was like on board.
“When people come in and accommodating all of them, it’s just a great experience to see how many people love the titanic and love the history that it brings,” said Only.
Visitors can step into a virtual reality experience that lets them explore the ship in a whole new way, walking the decks, looking out over the ocean and even seeing the wreck site as it rests today.
It all leads into an immersive space that recreates the night og Apr. 14, when the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg, changing history forever.
The exhibit also looks beyond the Titanic itself, connecting visitors to the ships tied to its legacy, including those that rescued the survivors, those that failed to respond and those that were changed forever by the tragedy.
