Original reporting by Zoey Patrick

USF has a new president.

Moez Limayem began his tenure on Tuesday as the ninth president of USF. Limayem was unanimously approved by the USF Board of Trustees in October.

He had been the president of the University of North Florida since 2022.

Prior to that, he served as the dean for the Muma College of Business at USF.

Former President Rhea Law announced she was stepping down this time last year.

Limayem says he’s “humbled and honored” by the opportunity and looks forward to building on USF’s national momentum and academic growth.

Uber recently launched a new safety feature in Tampa aimed at making rideshares safer for women.

Women using Uber now have the option to request a female driver. In the app, the women driver preference can be turned on in settings.

Riders can also select the option when needed and women drivers can also set their settings to only pick up female riders.

Uber says it will be offering these features to more cities in the future.

MOSI

After four decades with the same name, the Museum of Science and Innovation decided it was time for a change.

As the “I” in MOSI shifts from “industry” to “innovation”, the museum is rolling out new developments to reflect the change.

The museum has collaborated with USF in efforts to share new groundbreaking tools with students.

Computer labs that can create 360-degree movies are able to be shown in the second largest planetarium in America.

“You know there’s always something changing here at MOSI, so you could…you might come and you know come one day and see something and then the next time you come the experience has totally changed,” said MOSI President and CEO John Gaydon Smith.

Mosi has added 15 more classrooms, allowing four times the number of field trips and camps.

“We want to spark that curiosity in the kids so that it leads them to be scientists or innovators or engineers in the future,” said MOSI Director of Education Janet White.

MOSI is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more info, go to mosi.org.
