Tampa Bay federal funding increase

Original reporting by Zoey Patrick

The Tampa Bay region is set to receive a $22.5 million in federal funding.

This money will go towards a variety of projects.

The money comes from the federal budget approved by Congress for infrastructure improvements, research programs and economic development efforts.

Multiple organizations are expected to benefit, including the University of South Florida and the Moffitt Cancer Center, which will receive funding for research and technology labs.

The funding will also support workforce training, cybersecurity programs and equipment for scientific research in the region.

Bike ride with the Temple Terrace Mayor

Original reporting by Grace Senecal

Temple Terrace is hosting events to bring the community together.

The 12th Annual Bike Ride with the Mayor happened over the weekend.

This event is in partnership with Tampa General Hospital and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The ride promotes bike safety and healthy living while also bringing the community together. It began at the Family Recreational Center and continued through several neighborhoods.

Mayor Andy Ross has been in office since 2020. He says staying active in the community is his main priority.

“But beyond that, these are huge community builders because people come out, I’m always surprised by this event we get people  from Oldsmar and safety Harbor to come ride around our streets for half an hour which is really kind of cool but it gives us a chance to put the city out there,” said Ross.

Residents from Temple Terrace and other areas came together for a morning spin.

City council members and other city officals including the police and fire chiefs, also came to show their love for the community.

“They bring the community together, everyone gets to come out and see their friends and their neighbors and the people on city council and the mayor, rub shoulders with you know the hot shots of the city,” said Temple Terrace resident Carol Dell.

If you couldn’t make it out to the event, make sure to check out templeterrace.gov for upcoming events.
