Police chief shares goals for Temple Terrace’s law enforcement
Rob Staley was sworn in as Temple Terrace’s new chief of police on March 3.
After three weeks in the new position, Staley has set goals for the short and long term.
“I have a plan for the first hundred days, six months, a year and a year plus,” he said. “That plan incorporates many different aspects that will help make the community safer.”
One of Staley’s goals is to improve safety on Temple Terrace’s roads, specifically regarding speeding.
“We have major thorough affairs that go throughout the city that people just need to slow down, and we want to spread that message to those people and make our roadways safer.”
Other goals Staley has for the city include crime prevention programs and enhancing community involvement.
The department has already began working on community involvement by hosting a monthly “coffee with a cop” event at which the officers serve as baristas.
“We go to a local business, and we serve coffee to residents, and we hear their needs and we interact with them,” he said.

Staley said he wants to find more ways for the community to connect with law enforcement.
“I would like to see more engagement from the public there, so feel free to come out, have a cup of coffee and just tell us what’s on your mind and what we can do to improve the services that we provide you.”
Since taking office, Staley has already met with city leaders and business owners, but he said input from his own department is also very important.
“We have a great organization here and what their vision is moving forward,” he said.

Staley said he hopes to keep everyone in Temple Terrace safe as he ushers in a new era of law enforcement.
The ultimate end goal is to keep the city safer for residents, guests and visitors, he said.
“There’s a litany of things that I want to work on to try to drive this department into a new generation,” Staley said.
