Women’s soccer prepares for tourney

Original reporting by Cameron Churilla

Last season, the USF women’s soccer team made it all the way to the conference semifinals, but fell short to East Carolina.

USF head coach Chris Brown said he views the American Conference tournament as a whole new season.

“Once you get to the tournament it’s a whole other season,” Brown said. “We kind of break our seasons into three segments, non conference…conference, regular season, and conference tournament.”

USF has an overall record of 7-8-2, which is eigth place in the American. But, the placing doesn’t matter to the team, A conference championship does.

USF defender Macy Felton tells us how she stays locked in with tournament views on the horizon.

“Just being present every game comes down to the little details on and off the field but just staying connected with my team, like truly getting that bond really strong and my faith is the most important thing to me, so staying strong with that,” Felton said.

The American tournament begins on Nov. 3.

The NCAA said the University of South Florida will host games for the first and second rounds of the Division I men’s basketball championship.

Although USF will serve as the host institution, the games will be played off-campus. There will be two games played at Benchmark International Arena on March 20th and March 22nd.

This marks the second year in a row an NCAA basketball tournament came to Tampa.

The Women’s Final Four was held in the city last April, when UConn took down South Carolina for its 12th national championship.
