Morean Arts Center Summer Camp

Students across the Tampa Bay area will be getting out of school next month for the summer break. Camps and other activities are starting to fill up.
The Morean Arts Center in St. Pete is offering eight weeks of summer art camps with a full range of activities from early June through the end of July.
At the Morean Arts Center, students will have access to a variety of activities, from glassblowing to jewelry making.
“Nobody really gets to blow glass in their everyday life so it’s kind of unique. It’s great for learning and great to kind of get some hands-on experience with something that is a little different,” said glassblowing instructor and artisit Matthew Szidik.
The camp also aims to help students experiment with art outside of the classroom and keep their creativity alive.
“One of the nice things about camps is parents drop off their children and it kind of waters the seed that was planted when they were kids to be creative again as well. And I do believe that creates the happiest person. It doesn’t necessarily need to be the visual arts, it could be, that is what we offer, but the most important thing is that people tap into their creativity,” said Education Director Lori Vinssett.
The arts center welcomes students from first to tenth grade. The cost for attendance is $250 for Morean members and $300 for non-members. There are also scholarships available.

New music venue coming to Ybor City

A new music venue is coming to Ybor City as part of a major development project.
Being built by a local businessman, Darryl Shaw, and developer Kettler, the mid-size venue will be in the Gasworx District, near North 15th St. and 7th Ave.
It will be operated by Live Nation and hold about 43 hundred people, making it one of the larger venues in the area.
It is expected to create hundreds of jobs and bring millions in tax revenue each year, according to project leaders.
The venue is set to open in 2028 as part of a broader effort to boost entertainment and economic growth in Ybor City.
