A young newlywed couple wanted a home of their own, so they took matters into their own hands and built one themselves.
TAMPA – Finding affordable housing these days can be tough, especially for young couples. Instead of waiting for the perfect home, one Plant City couple decided to build one themselves.
The tiny home started as an old shed on the Saunders family property. The couple originally used it to store materials and products for their clothing company, Strength from Above.
Isa Saunders, 22, had never considered owning a tiny home until her husband suggested it. Now, she says she couldn’t imagine it any other way.
“This was definitely the right thing in what God had for us,” said Saunders. “Being okay with being different from maybe what your family expects or what your friends do is perfectly fine.”
The Saunders found a special way to center their home on their faith. During construction, they wrote Bible verses on the walls together.
One verse, in particular, gave Jace Saunders, 22, strength and motivation throughout the construction process.
“Proverbs 27:17… Iron sharpens iron, for one man sharpens another,” said Saunders. “Even for us just be able to sharpen one another and just grow in our faith but also for the people that come into the house that you know this is a place that we can share our faith but to also grow with those around us.”
The couple recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and looks forward to many more years together. They hope to encourage other young couples by showing them that they can build a life together while living within their financial means.
For the Saunders, this tiny home means more than having a place to live. They are building a marriage, a future, and a life rooted in their faith. To learn more about their story and to follow their journey, find them on Instagram.
